Infection prevention and control in the SHRINIVASGERIMS teaching hospital.

The Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC) leads infection prevention and control in the 905-bed teaching hospital: surveillance, isolation practices, hand hygiene, biomedical waste and outbreak response.

Role

  • Healthcare-associated infection surveillance in wards, ICU, OT and emergency
  • Antibiotic stewardship support with clinical departments
  • Staff immunization and needle-stick protocols
  • Training of nurses, doctors, students and housekeeping
  • Coordination with microbiology for cultures and resistance patterns

Patients and attendants can help by following visitor rules, hand hygiene and mask guidance posted in wards.
