The Institutional Ethics Committee (Ethical Committee) reviews research involving human participants so studies at SHRINIVASGERIMS meet national ethical standards (including ICMR guidelines) before they start.

Role

• Review student, resident and faculty protocols that involve patients, students or community participants
• Assess risk, consent, privacy and vulnerability
• Require modifications or withhold approval where protection is inadequate
• Monitor ongoing studies when required

No human-subject research should begin without ethics approval. Scientific merit is also seen by the Scientific Committee.
